About
The career of South Australian saxophonist and clarinetist Emile Ryjoch reflects a commitment to sound, honesty and collaboration. Moving between orchestral stages, theatre productions and contemporary ensembles, his practice is shaped by clarity of musical intention and responsiveness to context rather than allegiance to a single genre.
Among his performance credits are Kate Ceberano, Michael Feinstein, Eddie Perfect, Reuben Kaye, Em Rusciano, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the South Australia Police Band and Chong Lim (OAM). He has appeared at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, OzAsia Festival and Adelaide Fringe, and on international stages including Feinstein’s 54 Below and Rockwood Music Hall in New York.
Born into a musical family, Ryjoch was immersed in music from an early age. His mother, Danielle, has been a violinist with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra since 1986, and his father, André, is a respected woodwind educator. This upbringing fostered both technical discipline and a deep respect for ensemble musicianship — values that continue to inform his professional practice.
Ryjoch holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance with First Class Honours from the Elder Conservatorium of Music. His educational work spans primary, secondary and tertiary contexts across South Australia, where he teaches instrumental performance, directs ensembles and mentors students preparing for specialist music programs and conservatorium study. He has been invited to deliver guest lectures at the Elder Conservatorium of Music and present masterclasses within secondary school jazz programs.
Arranging and transcription form a significant part of Ryjoch’s professional output. He prepares material for touring productions, theatre and cabaret shows, large ensembles and commercial bands, approaching each project with structural clarity and a practical understanding of how music functions in rehearsal and performance.
His work reflects a sustained engagement with the craft of music-making — grounded in preparation, collaboration and artistic integrity across orchestral, theatrical and contemporary contexts. This continuity defines his contribution within the professional music landscape both in South Australia and beyond.
